Fountain Valley School lies nestled in the rolling hills south of Colorado Springs. In the early 1930's, the famous Santa Fe architect John Gaw Meem designed several buildings.
Barrett Studio Architects was chosen to bring these buildings into the new millennium to fit with the School's modern educational model. The opportunity to restore such precious gems of the Santa Fe Style while making them functional and energy-efficient was a worthy and well-met challenge.
Penrose Hall underwent a $3.4MM renovation and restructuring that fixed numerous deficiencies in the old building while re-orienting all spaces to a new residential model for students and faculty. The complex underwent a complete gut and replacement of all systems and finishes, installing energy efficient windows and new heating, plumbing and electrical systems throughout. The renewed dorm increased student counts with additions that blend seamlessly with the historical architecture.
